The rear edge is cut away in a deep U. Sit down and the tailbone sits over that open gap with nothing underneath it, while the two raised pads either side take the load through the sit bones instead. Zip it off and wash it

A zip runs around the base of the cover, so the whole cover lifts off the foam in one piece and goes in the wash when it needs to. Turn the cushion over and the underside is a dark anti slip panel covered in raised grip dots. That is what stops it creeping forward every time you stand up and sit back down.
