The parts

What each part is

Two rigid moulded shells wrap the lower thigh and the upper calf, one hinge joins them at the side of the knee, and four straps with quick release buckles pull the whole knee brace in.

  • Two rigid shells, one above and one below
  • One side hinge with a screw on cover plate
  • Foam lining along every edge of both shells

The hinge

One hinge, on the side of the knee

The hinge sits on the outer side only, level with the knee, and an oval cover plate screws over it. A card of moulded stop pieces comes in the box with a hex key and a screwdriver, so the hinge can be set to limit how far the knee bends.

  • One hinge, on the outer side of the knee
  • Oval cover plate held by two screws
  • Stop pieces, a hex key and a screwdriver included

The straps

Four straps, four buckles

Two straps sit on the thigh shell and two on the calf shell, each with its own quick release buckle on a triangular anchor. Thigh and calf tighten separately, which is more adjustment than most hinged braces for knee wear give you.

  • Two straps above the hinge, two below
  • Each buckle releases with one press
  • The straps stay threaded through the shells

The front

Nothing crosses the kneecap

The front of this knee support brace is left open. The two shells sit above and below the knee and the hinge joins them round the side, so the kneecap stays uncovered and the hinge folds as the knee bends.

  • Open front, the kneecap is not covered
  • The hinge folds for sitting and for stairs
  • Ventilation slots pressed into both shells

Every day

On through the day

At 570 grams the complete brace is light enough to keep on while you are up and about. The shells are moulded plastic rather than fabric, so the knee brace keeps its shape once the four straps are pulled in.

  • 570 grams for the complete brace
  • Moulded shells hold their shape
  • Ventilation slots through both shells

In the box

Everything it needs, in the box

The brace arrives assembled, with the tools for setting the hinge and a printed guide, so there is nothing else to buy before the first fitting.

  • A hex key and a small screwdriver
  • A printed fitting guide

Frequently asked questions

Which side does the hinge go on?+
On the outer side of the knee, level with the joint. Because the hinge sits on one side only, the brace is made as a left leg version and a right leg version, and each shell carries a small printed left or right label.
Does it cover the kneecap?+
No. The front is open. The two rigid shells sit on the lower thigh and the upper calf, and nothing crosses the kneecap.
How is the hinge set?+
A flat card of moulded stop pieces comes in the box with a hex key and a small screwdriver. The oval cover plate on the hinge unscrews so a stop can be fitted, which limits how far the knee bends.
How many straps are there?+
Four, each with its own quick release buckle. Two sit on the thigh shell above the hinge and two on the calf shell below it, so the thigh and the calf tighten separately.
What comes in the box?+
The brace assembled, a printed fitting guide, a moulded card of stop pieces, a hex key and a small screwdriver.
How much does it weigh?+
570 grams for the complete brace, shells, lining, straps and buckles together.
