If you sleep on your side, a good part of the night goes on working out what to do with the arm underneath you. This pillow is shaped around that. Your head goes inside the upper curve of the U, and the open gap below it is where the lower arm sits, so it lies in the pillow rather than under your own weight.

The two arms of the U do not meet. That leaves a clear opening running right through the middle of the pillow, wide enough for a forearm to lie inside it. On a plain rectangle that arm has to go somewhere else. Here it has a space of its own.

The size

It is a small pillow. Sixty centimetres from one outer edge of the U to the other, and forty five centimetres from the front of the opening to the back of the curve. That takes up one side of the bed rather than the full width of it, so the other side stays as it was.
